Bica Funicular

Transport for taking passengers up and down steep hills in Bairro da Bica neighbourhood.The third funicular to be installed in Lisbon on June 28th, 1892Originally funicular was water powered tram designed by Portuguese engineer and architect Raoul Mesnier du Ponsard (same who build elevator of Santa Justa).It worked by filling and emptying reservoirs on the roof of the carriages, with gravity then causing them to travel along the tracks.After it was converted to be steam powered in 1896 and electrified in 1924.Avarage gradient of 11 percent, being the least steep, Ii.e. Lavra has 23 percent.Part of public transportation, but used only as a tourist attraction nowadays.
