Campo Mártires Basketball Court
I have been playing at this court for 10 years now. It has had many phases and the one we are in now is not good. Just look at all the comments. It's 100% free to use and thats about the only thing good about it right now. They used the wrong paint so its slippery. The backboards are too slippery to do reverse layups because the ball doesn't bounce off normally. The rims are slightly smaller than normal but that will make anyone a great shooter anywhere else. The court has a security guard who opens it in the morning and closes it at night. It closes at 10pm and there are even lights for when it's dark so we can see what we are doing. I have cleaned this court several times because I live close by and love the sport so much. I can't be the one to maintain this. There are trees around the court and a fence all the way around so anything that lands in the court is hard to take out. The draining system does not work right so in the corners it is full of leaves and dirt. Since there is a soccer goal there the kids usually play there but there is peace between all sports here and we just talk to each other. If you are looking for a not so serious basketball game then here is where you want because everyone is scared to give it 100% as its easy to slip and hurt yourself. All players from all sports agree with me and we have tried to make several changes along the years. The court looks nice with this new paint design but for the players its a danger. You never feel comfortable playing here because you could fall. I am only writing such a harsh review because I love my neighborhood and I love sports. After all this is has been said the only change I would ask for is the slippery court. Change the paint. Paint over it or something just so we can play like we used to. 10 years ago the ground was bad and had holes but was still better than it is today. In 2017 they added new backboards and painted some of the court this blue color which was slippery. Same mistake as now. It made some difference but not much. I play here almost every day and there is a facebook group with all the people who play here. Ask someone who is a regular and you will be added to the group and know about basketball at this court or anywhere in Lisbon. Go check it out for yourself and see if you like it. People here are nice and good games go on. Just please the Junta de Freguesia de Arroios needs to make a serious change because I'm EXHAUSTED seeing kids get hurt because of the decision to make the court a piece of art and not a piece of equipment we can use. 1 star because its slippery, 5 stars for the basketball
