Palacete Mantero Belard

An abandoned retreat house inside the estate of Francisco Mantero (that roughly corresponds to the Quinta das Conchas e dos Lilases today), a successful businessman who made fortune in S. Tomé and Príncipe. It it was used as his wife's last residence, at a time she had gone mad. Urban myth declares it a haunted building, her spirit wandering about still.The Parque das Conchas was heavily restored, but unfortunately none of the budget was reserved to the rehabilitation of this building which sits at the periphery of the park, hidden behind trees.There is risk of collapse and one can't get inside, its openings closed out. It is nevertheless a curious and intriguing folly along the paths that crisscross this woody part of the park.Hopefully the city hall will find the will to restore it or at least place an information plaque with its history.
