My wife and I wanted an authentic Alentejo experience and this cafe has it in spades. We were in Alentejo to visit the castle of Monsaraz and go fishing in the Alqueva and we were recommended this cafe in Casas Novas de Mares that also serves specials of the day. Today’s specials happened to be grilled octopus and bacalhau in a tomato stew, which were cooked perfectly. We topped it off with a fruit plate, latte and some local dessert that was simply amazing. Hole in the wall that I highly, highly recommend if you are in the area.
