Hospital da Luz Setúbal
I went to the emergency room of Hospital da Luz, Setubal June 30, 2023 for a terrible poison ivy face rash which I acquired using Kintsugi lacquer which is made from a tree in the poison ivy family. I was immediately given a cortisone injection and left the hospital with a prescription for 40mg of prednisone for three days and then taper to 20mg for 3 days. The doctor also gave me a prescription for Telefast 150 an antihistamine....although I told her that poison ivy is NOt a histamine reaction.) Needless to say, the rash came back with a vengeance 2 days after I stopped the prednisone. The Portuguese doctors HAVE NO IDEA how to treat poison ivy because it does not exist in the country. But they DO have access to the internet like I do where a l found that the protocol for treatment is LONGER (5 days at 40mg) and slower more graduated taper (5 days 30mg, 20, 10, 5, 5). When I called about the recurance, I was told to come back for them to access my condition...but I am not in the mood to visit again. If Portuguese hospitals like LUZ want to be top tier and world class as they bill themselves they need to do a better job!
