The 1506 Jewish Massacre Memorial

The Jewish community of Portugal sponsored this simple memorial, a perfectly round travertine stone cut in half. In the flat surface a Star of David shape is imbedded. Translated, the plaque reads: In memory of the thousands of Jews who were victimized by intolerance and religious fanaticism, killed in the massacre that started on 19 April 1506.
