If you came in a Mario or Yoshi outfit looking for a cart, wrong continent! Turn around and take the next flight to Tokyo instead (and be prepared to be ridiculed). Came looking for delightful non-pretentious Portuguese food? Walk right in! Don’t be intimidated by its appearance; everyone is super friendly, but you won’t see a granny pulling your cheek like a toddler (unless you forgot to cover that double chin).Bread on the table is for sharing; Lick it and it’s yours. Your chosen main comes with fresh leaves and tomato (you know…that stuff you salad-dodgers have not seen for years). Seafood is smoky with perfect seasoning which does not overpower, and sausages contain more meat than your empty skull. Look around, and everyone is drinking a jug of purple stuff. If you walked up those vertigo-inducing steep stairs to get here, you deserve some. If not, take anther bite of your untouched salad!Soon enough you lose your suspicions of everyone waving to each other and talking about you in Portuguese (after more of that purple liquid). They are a community of loyal regulars who keep coming back to enjoy the village vibe in a big city. For a touch of authenticity, it’s cash payment only.If you fancy the wild idea of having sampled more than just nata and done more than just being drunk and waking up next to Brazilian ladyboys in Bairro Alto pub street, make Super Mario an essential visit!
